About PSAF

INTRODUCTION

Sailing has been conducted in this part of the world since 1932. During this era, first yacht club known as Royal Karachi Yacht Club was established at Bunker Island Manora, which was solely managed and run by Britishers and expatriates till 1947.

After independence this sport was taken up by the three services. Sailing was only limited to inter clubs and inter services level only.

In 1969 Pakistan Yachting Association was formed by Rear Admiral M A K Lodhi, Capt Z U Chaudhry and Rody Hermes of the Karachi Yacht Club.  In 1978 when Bahram D Avari and Munir Sadiq won the first gold medal in the Asian Games the Association was recognized by the Pakistan Sports Board and The Pakistan Olympic Association.

With the passage of time, the name was changed to PAKISTAN SAILING FEDERATION in 1995. As per present constitution Commander Karachi is the ex-Officio “Patron” of Pakistan Sailing Federation. The other appointments such as President, Vice President, Secretary General, Treasurer and PRO are elected appointments. However, COMKAR is also elected as President of PSAF. As per the new Govt. policy and Pakistan Sailing Federation constitution these elections are held after every 4 years.  

PSAF is affiliated to the various National and International bodies. At the National level it is affiliated with the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) & the Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) and at the International level to the International Sailing Federation (ISAF), Asian Sailing Federation (ASAF) and the various Class Associations.

OBJECTIVES OF PSAF

To promote Sailing in the country and water sports related to motor boats. Maintain affiliated with ISAF, ASAF and Member National Association.
